Germ is a mountain village located at 1300 meters of altitude. The GR10 passes through the village. At the foot of the Peyragudes ski resort, it has only 37 full-time inhabitants.
The village used to just be pasture for the grazing herds. Later on, barns were built for supervising the herds and a few families from the lower part of the valley moved there.
A lord who wanted to grow his fiefdom promised prosperity to anyone who would join the first inhabitants of Germ, and so the village was born.
An ideal location!
This village, nestled in a small valley, remained isolated from other villages for many years. It was not until 1915 that a road connected it to Peyresourde Pass, but the village did not suffer from its isolation. It built a mini ecosystem all its own like the Aure and Louron Valleys.
In the heart of these untamed mountains, we invite you to taste our delicious Basque and Pyrenean specialties.
